Abstract

Economics is a central position in the national educational curriculum with the objectives of not only promoting knowledge of efficient resource management but also equipping students with skills to contribute to national development. It encourages entrepreneurship and innovation, which are crucial drivers of economic development. This paper therefore seeks to show case the vital role of innovations in enhancing the teaching and Learning of Economics and preparing the students for the task ahead of them. Innovations in economics education entails exploring creative ways of delivering instructions and presenting same to students effectively to enable them achieve positive goals in the future. To take students to this level of quality, teachers of economics must be equipped and prepared themselves to use innovative resources to teach economics. This paper provides arguments to show vital role of adopting innovation in economics teaching and learning to provide better information knowledge and skills to students. The study recommends that opportunities for professional development should be provided for teachers to equipped themselves for the task at hand and that teachers must implement new learning models that meet the needs of contemporary students and are consistent with the realities of the changing economic environment of this century.
